The overall objective of Danida Business Partnerships is to support sustainable development and contribute to poverty reduction. The objective will be pursued by creating growth and employment in Danida partner countries. The immediate objective of Danida Business Partnerships is to transfer knowledge and technology from Danish to local partners, including improvement of working and living conditions of the poor and enhancing the competitiveness of local enterprises. This will be done by supporting establishment of partnerships that create value for companies while at the same time add overall value to society.Additionality will continue to be a precondition for support. Danida Business Partnerships only supports partnerships with funding for impact and effect that the partnerships have on the development in partner countries and that would not have occurred without Danida’s assistance and support. Partnerships are measured on their development impact which is directly linked to the Danish development priorities as laid out in the strategic framework for priority area “Growth and Employment” 2011-2015.
Danida Business Partnership applies to all Danida Partner countries where the political and economic context allows commercial co-operations and where Danida is represented and has the capacity to support a partnership. In addition, regionally oriented partnerships, including partners from non-Partner countries can be supported as long as the partnership is anchored in a Partner country.
Sectors mentioned in the Business Development Profile for partner countries are given priority, while tobacco, alcohol and weapon industry cannot be supported. Dual use products or products and services with a negative privacy impact are subject to special screening.
The partnership support is structured in two separate phases:The preparation phase includes all activities from the first contacts to identify partners to defining the partnership and the business model for support under an implementation phase. The preparation phase must result in an operational business model for the partnership and should be completed within one year. The implementation phase includes all activities needed to carry out the partnership and implement the business model. This phase must result in the development impacts described in the business model and should be completed within three years.
