Applicants outside Ghana

Applications for a short stay visa from residents in Liberia, Guinea (Conakry), Sierra Leone, Togo, and Cote d’Ivoire are handled by the Embassy of Denmark in Accra.

ECOWAS citizens applying in Ghana can choose to submit their passports together with their visa applications or travel back to their home countries and use a courier service to submit their passports.

Applicants from countries outside ECOWAS, e.g. Cameroun*, usually choose to return to their country of residence using their passports after submitting their application and then send the passport by courier to the Embassy in Accra.

Applicants who have previously travelled to Schengen and had their fingerprints collected for the first time less than 59 months ago, may consult the Embassy for guidance on whether they will be required to apply in person.

Applicants visiting more than one Schengen country should submit the visa application to a diplomatic mission representing the country where most time during the visit will be spend or where the main purpose of the visit is.

*: Visa applicants should normally submit their applications in their country of residence or to the Embassy that is side-accredited to their country of residence. E.g. Residents in Ghana wishing to visit Denmark applies through the Embassy of Denmark in Accra. Residents in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea (Conakry), Cote d'Ivoire, and Togo applies through the Embassy in Accra. Residents in Cameroun applies through the Danish Embassy in Ouagadougou. It is however possible to submit in another country, if the applicant has a valid reason to do so.

Visa applications are received as described above and in the table below. Applicants who do not live in Ghana should consult the page 'Applicants outside Ghana' to learn more about the procedure.

To apply for resident permits the procedure is different. The Embassy of Denmark in Accra only receives applications for residence permits for Iceland and Denmark. Applications for residence in other countries should be submitted to a diplomatic mission of that country. E.g. to apply for residence in Finland or Sweden, the applicant should consult the Finnish or Swedish Embassy in Abuja.
