10 years celebration of the Justice For All Programme

22.10.2018  15:03

The share of remand prisoners of the total prison population in Ghana has witnessed a significant reduction: from 33% in 2007, when the Justice for All Programme was launched, to 12% today. This is a major achievement. Every time a man or a woman is walking out of a prison after 5, 7 or even 9 years on remand without seeing a judge, a life is changed and the person’s dignity is reestablished.

Last Friday, we celebrated the 10 years anniversary for the Justice For All Programme with the President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Special Guest of Honour and Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo.
Good governance and respect for human rights are key pillars of Danish development policy, and Denmark has supported the Judicial Service in Ghana for more than 20 years. We are extremely proud to have been a part of this programme that have helped so many prisoners on remand to justice.

Thanks to everyone who has supported this agenda for the past 10 years and thanks for a delightful evening.
