The Embassies of Denmark to Ghana and Nigeria along with a Danish Delegation participated in the G7++ Friends of Gulf of Guinea Maritime Security Conference in Accra. The annual summit brings together collaborating partners and stakeholders on Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea .
Along with collaborating partners in the region, the summit discussed the international and regional efforts and collaboration within the framework of the Yaoundé Code of Conduct to strengthen Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea.

The G7++ -conference 2019 focused on the challenges facing the industry and countries such as piracy, armed robbery against ships, illegal fishing, and other illicit maritime activities in West and Central Africa.
In order to make the G7++-conference more operational, France, and its co-host Ghana, had taken the initiative to launch five virtual working groups prior to the summit on the following themes: Legal framework of and within the Yaoundé Code of Conduct, Financing of the Yaoundé Code of Conduct, Maritime Domain Awareness within the Yaoundé Code of Conduct structure, Training and Education within the Yaoundé Code of Conduct, Blue Economy.

The concluding remarks made by the working groups on the above-mentioned themes at the conference was that political will, trust, security and judicial cooperation have to be domesticated and promoted in the region to create a stronger collaborative response between the member states.
There was a common understanding that the present situation in the Gulf of Guinea being the piracy hot spot in the world was impacting heavily on all country in the region. Even the threat of piracy have serious and long term economic consequences for all local economies, import and export and thus the price of commodities for all West African citizens.

Denmark stands firm on its commitment to aid the fight against maritime insecurity in the region through a regional Maritime Security Programme cooperating with national, regional and international partners.
