Danish Embassy visit to the Egyeikrom Refugee Camp

A delegation from the Auditor General's Office in Denmark visited the Egyeikrom Refugee Camp near Elmina together with representatives from the UNHCR, Implementing Partners (Ghana Refugee Board, Adventist Relief Agency/ADRA, National Catholic Secretariat/NCS, Christian Council of Ghana/CCG) and the Embassy of Denmark. The Camp was established in July 2011 and hosts mainly Ivorian asylum-seekers and refugees who fled violence in Côte d'Ivoire after the 2010 political elections. Recently, there has been a number of new arrivals following the October election in Côte d'Ivoire. The camp population totals approximately 2600 refugees.

The delegation acquainted themselves with school and health facilities in the Camp and also visited Livelihood projects such as production of vegetables in green house, poultry and atsieke production as well as hairdressing and tailoring. The delegation exchanged with Camp residents engaged in Livelihood projects about the challenges of their activities. 

In 2014 Denmark contributed with DKK 320,5 million to the UNHCR.
