The energy deficit in Africa remains very large. Only half of the population has access to reliable energy and over 620 million people live without the benefit of an electricity connection. However, the continent holds a significant share of the world’s renewable energy potential, and many countries in West Africa seek to expand, stabilize and diversify their energy supply in an environmentally clean and cost effective manner. Within 20 years, renewables are expected to account for about 40% of total energy generation in Africa.

These issues and possibilities are addressed tomorrow the 3rd of November, when the delegation will be introduced to speakers and presentations by AfDB, USAID, Africa Guarantee Fund (AGF), the Investment Fund for Development Countries (IFU), Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement (BOAD) and the Indian Ambassador among many others.

The following days the delegation is going on field trips to CIPREL refinery, the Akouedo Biogas project, the Azito Thermal Power Plant and the SOLIBRA/Carlsberg Brewery. Further, to investigate the infrastructure the delegation is invited on a lagoon boat trip by Maersk Line.
The Danish Embassy will be represented by the Ambassador of Denmark, Ms. Tove Degnbol and Head of the Trade Section Mr. Jacob Kahl Jepsen.
