Last week a high level delegation from Ghana headed by Deputy Minister for Transport Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Director General Peter Azuma of the Ghana Maritime Authority visited Denmark.

The delegation participated in the international conference Danish Maritime Forum and met with the Danish Minister of Business and Growth Troels Lund Poulsen to discuss a strengthened   cooperation in the maritime field between Ghana and Denmark.

Marking the first, practical implementation of this strengthened cooperation – and to standing applause - an agreement was signed on recognition of seafarers, permitting Ghanaian seafarers to sign on Danish ships – and vice versa. For Ghana, the agreement was signed by Deputy Minister for Transport Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Director General Peter Azuma of the Ghana Maritime Authority, in the presence of Ambassador Edith Hazel. For Denmark, the agreement was signed by Minister of Business and Growth, Troels Lund Poulsen and Director General Andreas Nordseth of the Danish Maritime Authority.

The agreement opens up the potential for further public and private initiatives on cooperation, and for advancing the use the Danish maritime experiences and positions of strength to create conditions for sustainable growth and jobs in the Ghanaian maritime sector.
