Danish Maritime Authority on a fact-finding visit to Ghana

23.01.2016  09:06

Ghana has been chosen as Denmark’s partner for strategic cooperation in the maritime sector in West Africa. To further this cooperation, a delegation from the Danish Maritime Authority (Søfartsstyrelsen) visited Ghana this week on a fact-finding mission.

The delegation had an opportunity to meet with the Ghanaian Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Ms. Joyce B. Mogtari, as well as high ranking officials from the Ghana Maritime Authority, the Regional Maritime University, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Ghana Shippers Authority – learning about their activities and discussing areas where Denmark and Ghana could engage in further cooperation.

Further, the delegation met with representatives from the maritime industry to gain their view on the challenges and opportunities private companies experience.

The delegation left Ghana saturated with impressions and ideas for cooperation and plans to visit again in the near future to further formulate the specifics of the strategic sector cooperation along with local partners.

The strategic maritime sector cooperation in Ghana centers around a humble approach, partnering with Ghanaian authorities on issues driven by their demand, offering the expertise of Danish Authorities on how to create world-class, business friendly maritime framework conditions.
